S-Magazine: Issue 3: The People Issue

Initially planned as our second annual Fashion Issue, this magazine morphed into a new theme and it was our cover girl Ashleigh McIvor who indirectly altered our course toward S-Mag’s first People Issue. We explore innovative people who have made a profound impact on the ski industry in Game Changers, starting on page 34. Brian Stemmle jumps in with some great commentary on his pick for a game changer: Rob Boyd. Girls Gone Wild, on page 26, is a lighthearted travel feature about three European women who explored the Mount Baker, Washington, region, just south of Vancouver, B.C., for the first time. Kevin Stevens talks to a true alpine racing great, Lasse Kjus, about his ski-apparel company. Josh Foster gives us his technical advice, this time on how to carve the perfect turn (see page 44), and Michael Mastarciyan talks about fresh looks, this time on the resurgence of safari-inspired apparel that is gracing the fashion-forward ski folks. S-Competition Magazine: Issue 3
This issue of S-Competition touches on five women who serve as role models for the younger generation. In “Crawford back in contention” on page 11, Tom McCarthy chronicles Chandra Crawford’s comeback from injury. No woman is dominating her peers as much as American Lindsey Vonn, whose sweep of the Lake Louise speed races is spotlighted in “Vonn elevates the bar, again” on page 8. Canadian alpiner Larisa Yurkiw’s gritty journey back to the start gate is the focus of “For Larisa Yurkiw, racing is a brave new world,” page 9. This issue of S-Comp went to press just before an unfortunate season-ending injury for ski cross champ Kelsey Serwa. Expect Serwa back in medal contention in 2013. Read about her approach to the sport in “Born for ski cross” on page 10. READ THE ISSUE
