STONEHAM, Quebec — Russia’s Ekaterina Tudegesheva and Austria’s Andreas Prommegger won World Cup snowboarding parallel giant slaloms Wednesday, both taking over the lead in the World Cup rankings.
At Stoneham, Tudegesheva, the 24-year-old World Cup title defender from Tashtagol, relegated top qualifier Julia Dujmovits of Austria to second place. Julie Zogg took third ahead of Germany’s Amelie Kober.
On the men's side, Prommegger celebrated his second win of the season by edging teammate Manuel Veith with a lead of 11 hundredths. In the battle for third, Swiss rider Nevin Galmarini held the upper hand over dethroned King of Stoneham Benjamin Karl of Austria. The reigning world champion had been unbeaten on the slope north of Quebec City over the course of the past four years.
Matthew Morison led Canada in ninth place. On the women’s side, Canada’s Caroline Calve placed 15th. “The conditions were good thanks to the volunteers who were doing an excellent job removing the snow,“ said Calvé after her race. “I was going for it till the end, it’s unfortunate, but sometime it’s just happens.“
The LG Snowboard FIS World Cup continues with the semifinals and finals of the season's last halfpipe event at Stoneham on Thursday. Justin Lamoureux and Brad Martin made it through to the semifinals. Mercedes Nicoll, Katie Tsuyuki, Sarah Conrad and Palmer Taylor will represent Canada in the women’s halfpipe competition.
